Jon Favreau's live action version of The Lion King makes its debut at the top of the US box office knocking Spider-Man: Far From Home to number 2.

The Lion King

The latest live action remake hits the top of the US box office with a weekend gross of $185 Million including preview showing on Thursday.

The film starring Donald Glover, Seth Rogen and Beyonce gained the biggest ever July opening weekend and looks set to become the next $1 Billion film from Disney.

Spider-Man: Far From Home

Falling to number 2 this week after a couple at the top the last Marvel movie of the year takes $21 Million over the weekend.

This puts the film new US gross at $319.6 Million after 3 weeks of release.

Toy Story 4

Dropping a single place to number 3 this week the Pixar animated film takes $14.6 million on its 5th weekend of release.

This puts the films total gross at $375.5 Million, the film is not that far behind 2010's Toy Story 3's $415.0 Million US gross.

Crawl

The horror thriller drops to number 4 this week with $6 Million taking its total gross to $23.8 Million after 2 weeks.

Yesterday

The Beatles inspired comedy falls to number 5 this weekend with $5.1 Million taking its total gross to $57.5 Million after 4 weeks.

Avengers: Endgame

13 weeks in and the Marvel Studios movie has taken $854.2 Million at the box office and although its the top grossing movie in the world now its only the second highest grossing movie in the US.
